Oh man, I know what you mean, I keep piling up web accounts and discard them after poking around for a few weeks. There's just way too MUCH.

Somewhat relatedly, I went to a museum with a friend last Saturday, a really really huge museum with lots of stuff to see, and some technical stuff to try out and touchscreens to mess with and quizzes to take and we kind of kept running around and pushing buttons and whenever something took more than three seconds we were instantly bored and moved on. No button to press? Just stuff to look at? Boring! We kept joking how the internet had ruined us for life, but man, it's sad. Kids these days! (Also, this reminds me that I'd meant to upload some pics to Flickr. How apropos.)

I have similar feelings about a lot of these Web2.0 properties. Lots of them would feel better if I could just maintain my own replica off in my own little server somewhere. I don't need a database farm to run a todo list but I do to successfully host 1,000's of photos. It's too bad that a lot of these companies don't release their website software as an open-source package (like Wordpress.com does).
